FORD GT40を塗り直せ！

A new project repainting the Ford GT40 that I built over 20 years ago.

FBのほうでぼちぼち進めていたAMRのフォードGT40の再塗装プロジェクト。完成から20年経過してクリアーコートの黄ばみが気になってきたので塗り直してくれという依頼です。

The request was repainting the yellowish body so I removed some detachable parts such as door handles and windows and then soaked it in an IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) bath for two to three days.

まあ確かに、完成当時と比べて鮮やかさは失われていますね。ドアノブや窓など外せるパーツを外してから、IPA浴槽に沈めて2-3日寝かせました。

Even after the IPA bath, a residue of urethane surfacer remained on the surfaces. I cleaned it up with sandpaper, chisels, and knives.

IPAから引き上げてもなお、ウレタンサフの塗膜が随所に残っていたので、サンドペーパーやタガネ、ナイフなどを使い、筋彫りの中までしっかりクリーニングします。

Since I am repainting it anyway, I corrected the number of fins in the roof ventilator. In the past, I picked up a similar photo-etched parts, but now this can be made with a 3D printer.

せっかく塗り直すので、ルーフのベンチレーターのフィンは10枚から8枚に修正。昔は手持ちのエッチングからそれらしいものを探し出す必要がありましたが、今は3Dプリンターで対応できます。

Additonally emphasized the line falling from the top of the roof to the upper edge of the side windows. And I also sanded down the center of the front hood.

ルーフのトップからサイドウインドウの上辺に落ちていくラインを強調し、ボンネットの中央も低めに削り込みました。

This newly carbon sanding plate from Argofile CSP is thin yet rigid, making it well-suited for this kind of heavy-duty shaping work.

新たに導入したアルゴファイルのカーボン製の当て木は、薄いのにシナリが無いので、この手の粗っぽい作業には向いてますね。

Current Status : I sprayed a grey surfacer to check the shape. The door lines on the roof look too straight, so I will correct them a bit curvilinear in a next step.

形状確認のためにグレーサフを吹きました。ルーフの上のドアのラインが直線的なので、ここの筋彫りも修正したほうが良さげですね。
